Detailed itinerary :

3 Day Tour from Fez to the Desert

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Todra Gorges

Our 3-day desert route from Fes begins after breakfast as we head toward Tinghir. We will pass through Ifrane and continue to the cedar forests of Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques. This is a wonderful opportunity to photograph Morocco’s natural beauty. After lunch in a small Berber village, we continue through the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the landscapes of Midelt before reaching the small town of Rich. From here, we turn toward the Todra Gorges, arriving in the late evening. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Todra – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga Desert

We depart the Todra Gorges toward the desert, passing various Berber villages scattered along the route. We will travel through Jorf and Erfoud, where you will notice the beginning of the Saharan Oasis of Tafilalt, before continuing to Merzouga. Upon arrival, we set off on a camel trek through the Merzouga dunes—a truly unique experience where the silence of the desert reigns supreme. Before reaching the camp, we will leave the camels and walk up a high dune to witness the sunset. Dinner will be served under a traditional tent, accompanied by the rhythm of Berber drums.

Day 3: Erg Chebbi Desert – Rissani – Fes

We rise early to witness the sunrise, followed by breakfast. After returning to the village by dromedary, we begin our journey back north. Our first stop is Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty that rules Morocco. We will visit its unique and immense market, where nomadic desert tribes gather to stock up on supplies. We then cross the Ziz Valley and the Tizi n’Talghomt pass to reach Midelt. Finally, we continue through the cedar forests to arrive in Fes in the late afternoon.

Elena G., Madrid Corto pero intenso

Solo teníamos un fin de semana y este tour fue perfecto. Dormir en el desierto es algo que hay que hacer una vez en la vida. El guía fue súper amable y el 4x4 muy cómodo.

Frequently Asked Questions :

3 Day Tour from Fez to the Desert

Rissani is a crucial historical site as it is the origin of the current ruling dynasty in Morocco. At Viajemos Marruecos, we consider this visit essential because its market is one of the most authentic in the country; it is the real place where desert nomads exchange products, spices, and livestock, offering a cultural insight that you won't find in the big cities.

To ensure you have the perfect experience, we recommend bringing a small backpack with basic toiletries and warm clothing, as the temperature in the dunes drops considerably at nightfall. Although our haimas are equipped with blankets and comfortable beds, dressing in layers will allow you to enjoy the campfire and drum music under the stars in complete comfort.

This tour is a "movie" of changing landscapes. You will see the alpine architecture of Ifrane, the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, the arid mountain passes, the endless palm groves of the Ziz Valley, and the red rock walls of Todra, ending in the golden dunes of the Sahara. It is undoubtedly one of the most visually complete routes in all of Morocco.
